New shared workspace for Catford – workshop on 4th June

Catford could soon be home to an incubator space for creative, digital and knowledge-based businesses.

Tom Fleming Creative Consultancy have been commissioned by Lewisham Council to look at the business case for creating a workspace on the 5th floor of Catford Town Hall as part of the council’s wider strategy to encourage these types of businesses across the borough.

A workshop is being held in the Town Hall on 4th June between 5 and 7PM to help further understand these businesses and to explore issues related to growing the sector and the workspace. This is also a great opportunity to connect with other people and to explore how Lewisham’s creative and digital businesses can better collaborate and work together.

After a brief tour of the 5th floor of the building, there will be an open discussion session at the Civic Suite.

All businesses working in the creative, digital or knowledge-based sector are invited.

If that’s you – come along! And do spread the word to any other suitable contacts.

Brockley More – a playwriting workshop

Rebecca Manson Jones from Just Jones theatre company writes with news of a chance to get involved in a great local theatre project:

Brockley More

Ten tiny plays written by, about and for the people living in and around Brockley.

Brockley More

This is an open invitation to anyone who wants to write a tiny play (no experience necessary) about their vision for the best that Brockley can be. We will present 10 of them at an informal evening of tiny plays performed by professional actors based in Brockley as part of Brockley Max at the Jam Circus.

A utopian dream? Possibly – probably… this is an evening of two parts. First, we present the plays representing 10 different visions for Brockley’s future and then we get a drink and we have informal conversations about what these tiny visions might lead us to.

Want to know more? Visit the website for tips on how to get started or come along to the free workshop on Thursday 29th May at the Talbot Pub, 2 Tyrwhitt Rd, London SE4 1QG at 7pm.

Deadline for submissions Monday 2nd June 5pm

Performance for ONE NIGHT ONLY Weds 4th June at Jam Circus, 330-332 Brockley Road

See for more information & ideas
or email to sign up for the workshop or to send us your tiny play. Please give us your contact phone number, your postcode.

We hope to hear from you and see you at Jam Circus

Hilly Fields Business Book Club – 12 March 2014 at 6pm

If you have a pile of business books you never get around to reading, this evening is for you!

We’ll be getting together to discuss the book, ‘Small giants: companies that choose to be great instead of big’ by Bo Burlingham.

The event will take place at the ONEIS HQ in Brockley – full details are available through

A small charge of £5 per head will be collected to cover the cost of refreshments.

If you’d like to attend, please RSVP here:

It’s widely accepted in business that great companies grow their revenues and profits year after year – but bigger is not necessarily better. In Small Giants, journalist Bo Burlingham takes us deep inside fourteen remarkable privately held companies, from a brewery to a record label, that chose a different path to success.

These organizations quietly rejected the pressure of endless growth, deciding to focus more on satisfying business goals – being the best at what they do, creating a stimulating place to work, providing perfect customer service and making important contributions to their communities.

But what are the magic ingredients that make these companies unique? Why and how does their approach work in such widely varying industries? And what lessons can we learn from them? A fresh, inspirational guide to business strategy, Small Giants will help any entrepeneur consider new directions to make their company great.
